ABOUT ME
Kalina Kirilova
From an early age I have always had an interest in music and media. Growing up in Bulgaria I attended the National School of Music where I excelled in music as well as ordinary lessons, regularly obtaining high grades, and often the highest in the class.
Following school, I moved to the UK to further my education. This saw me move to Cardiff to begin a Music Business degree at the University of South Wales. During this time I saw myself go from strength to strength, really growing in confidence and as a person as I ventured out of my home country for the first time ever, and my experiences on my undergraduate degree led me on the path that I am currently on.
Following graduation I began to think of what was next, and I decided to pursue my love of media, and enrolled on the International Journalism masters course at Cardiff University, one of the best Universities in the country for journalism.
While my studies were impacted by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, limiting my chances of securing work placements within organisations, I took the opportunity to contribute as often as I could towards our student publications. I became a confident and competent video producer, creating news packages either as a camera operator for fellow students, or as the journalist myself.
My life up until this point had almost always focussed on music, but during my course I wanted to challenge myself and get out of my comfort zone, so I even took on a sport story on occasion, something that I never thought I would ever be confident enough to do, but I created a article and video, interviewing Welsh athlete Jenny Nesbitt as sports events began to return to Wales following the pandemic.
Now as I come to the end of my degree I am eager to prove myself to an organisation as a young, bright, up and coming and determined journalist.
With proven abilities to not focus just on one area, and skills ranging from interviewing, writing, filming, editing and presenting, I feel that I am just one chance away from a long and successful career in the media industry.
